Leave a Legacy of Home and Hope
Planned Giving Is For Everyone
Many DC Habitat supporters choose to leave a donation in their wills and trusts as an important way to have long-term impact, without any upfront cost during their lifetimes. Making a will is one of the most impactful ways to extend your love and generosity for your family and friends. It can also help provide homes and hope for your community. By leaving a gift to DC Habitat in your will or trust, you are building a powerful legacy of reducing poverty and homelessness. Legacy giving isn’t only for the wealthy — gifts of any size are deeply appreciated, and there is a wide range in gift sizes.
You have many options when it comes to making a planned gift, including (but not limited to): Wills and living trusts, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, real estate, life insurance, endowed gifts, donor advised funds, bank accounts and IRAs/retirement plans, gifts of stock and securities.
- To get started, use this free tool. You can create a legal will online, or document your wishes and find an attorney near you.
- Specify within your will the amount or percentage of your estate you’d like to leave (if any) to DC Habitat and other charity organizations.
- Rest assured knowing you’ll be making positive change for generations to come.
If you’d prefer to go straight to an attorney to draft your will and you choose to leave a gift in your will, we suggest the following language and to advise us of your intentions:
“I bequeath (amount OR percentage) to Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C., Inc., a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of Washington D.C., with the principal business address of 2115 Ward Court NW, Suite 100, Washington, DC 20037 and federal tax identification number 52-1589700.”
There are many planned giving options available, and we’re happy to discuss the options with you in confidence. We are committed to helping you match your goals with the right gift, whether that is now or whenever the time is right.
