Matching Gifts

Many employers will match tax-deductible charitable contributions made by their employees, retirees, and employees’ spouses. These match programs can double, triple, or even quadruple your donations, making your gift go even further. Tens of thousands of companies across the United States offer gift matching programs, including more than 65% of Fortune 500 companies. Matching Programs are simple: if your company offers a dollar-for-dollar match, your gift of $100 is matched by their gift of $100 for a total donation of $200 to DC Habitat. In addition, many companies offer volunteer grant programs, where they will make a donation for hours that you volunteer.

Getting your gift matched is simple and easy!

  1. Make a donation. Many companies will match gifts up to one year and you’ll need your tax receipt.
  2. Use the search tool below to see if your company participates in a matching gift program.
  3. Your company will either require you to submit a request electronically or have you send us a form to confirm your donation.

My company does not match employee donations to Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. Is there anything I can do?

Absolutely. If your company does not currently match employee donations to DC Habitat, ask it to do so. Together, you and your employer can help build more homes for people in need.


I made a donation a few months ago. Can I still apply for a matching gift?

Yes! It’s not too late to apply for a matching gift! Many companies allow employees to submit match requests for 1 year following the date of the donation.


How long will it take for DC Habitat to receive my company match?

Anywhere from one month to one year. Please inquire with your company about their payout dates and matching gift deadlines.


What does match ratio mean?

  • 1:1 means your employer will match your donations dollar for dollar.
  • 2:1 means they will contribute two dollars for every dollar donated.
  • .50:1 means they will contribute 50 cents for every dollar donated, and so forth.
