DC Habitat works with thousands of volunteers each year to create affordable homeownership opportunities for local families. We build and repairs homes almost exclusively with volunteer labor, and we welcome people of all skill levels and backgrounds to work with us to build a better DC. Whether you want to get your hands dirty on our construction sites, support our office team, or help plan events, we have an opportunity for you. Find your perfect match and get started! We can’t do it without your help.

Construction Volunteers

We build homes and we want your help! DC Habitat’s construction crew utilizes volunteers each Wednesday through Saturday, year round. Though we schedule team build groups to volunteer on a majority of these workdays, we encourage you to sign up for build opportunities. We welcome your participation whether you are an experienced builder or you don’t know a sixteen-penny nail from a spackling knife!

Crew Leaders

Crew Leaders commit to volunteering 3-4 days a month for at least six months and work closely with our construction supervisors. They gain construction and leadership skills and collaborate with our staff, volunteers and AmeriCorps to lead small groups of volunteers on site. With the help of Crew Leaders, DC Habitat can build even more homes and serve more families.

Team Building

Looking for a team-building opportunity for your employees? Have a group of friends that want to make a difference? Want to get out of the office and improve your community? Team Building Days provide groups the opportunity to develop their team while giving back. We welcome all groups to join us in furthering our mission of eliminating poverty housing in DC.

Faith Groups

The foundation of Habitat for Humanity was built on the faith community. Millard and Linda Fuller, surrounded by hardships and inequality, believed that God did not intend poverty, slums or injustice for any living being. With their deep-rooted faith, the Fullers recognized their calling to correct these issues and took powerful action. Now, nearly 40 years later, churches, congregations, mosques, temples and people of all faiths still come together to create a world in which everyone has a decent place to live.

Faith-Based Opportunities

Office Volunteers

DC Habitat always needs volunteers who are willing to assist with administrative tasks in our office, such as helping with mailings, database updates and other organizational support. Opportunities are available Monday – Friday. Responsibilities and tasks include regular office tasks, small ongoing projects, data entry and filing, and other administrative support as needed.

Lunch Crews

Lunch crews are an important part of the building process and are greatly appreciated by our volunteers and construction staff. Lunch crews provide food, beverages and utensils/plates/paper products for approximately 20 to 30 volunteers on scheduled build days. It’s a great way to say “thank you” to the individuals who work in all types of weather to build homes for deserving DC families.

AmeriCorps is a national service program that gives thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to serve in their communities for 10 months to 1 year and earn educational awards to pursue higher education or pay off student loans. DC Habitat works with AmeriCorps members to build homes and relationships with our partner families and volunteers.

Habitat Young Professionals of Washington, D.C. (HYPDC) is a network of DC area professionals committed to the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, and to making a difference in the community of Washington, D.C. Skilled Volunteers

Do you have a special skill or area of expertise that you want to use to help us in our mission to eliminate substandard housing in the District of Columbia? We would love to have your hands-on skills on site if you have expertise in tiling, installing cabinets, as a trim carpenter or punch out carpenter, with interior finish carpentry, gutters and downspouts, laminate installation, or exterior siding and trim.
