Sponsor a Build

A Team Build in Action
Our partner families benefit in many ways from the financial support of sponsorships, and we know that you, your family or your organization will be enriched by the experience of supporting a hard working, low-income family in the construction of a new home – or in the preservation of their existing home.
Companies benefit from the opportunity to involve their employees in positive team-building activities. They also enjoy increased visibility in the community and a boost in employee morale. Partner congregations benefit from the opportunity to put their faith into action. The experience also creates fellowship in a positive team-building situation. Many organizations gain a better understanding of affordable housing issues and are inspired to take action. In addition to these intrinsic benefits, Habitat also strives to offer meaningful sponsor recognition as described below.
We offer groups the ability to sponsor builds at several levels. The levels, along with corresponding recognition benefits, are outlined below.

A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) is a Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. program serving low-income homeowners impacted by age, disability and family circumstances who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. ABWK will focus on exterior home repairs performed by Habitat for Humanity volunteers. Groups of 10 or more volunteers work alongside homeowners to revitalize a home’s exterior. Teams are led by experienced volunteer crew leaders. Typical ABWK projects include painting, minor exterior repairs, safety-related improvements, landscaping and exterior clean-up.
Habitat for Humanity’s ABWK is part of Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. This initiative is a holistic approach, assisting communities as well as families. In addition to helping families live independently and securely in their homes, it is designed to: revitalize the appearance of the neighborhood, encourage connections within the community, and most importantly, help preserve affordable housing stock in this wonderful city.
A Brush with Kindness team day is perfect for a group that is not able to commit to the financial support needs of a Team Build Day on the Habitat construction site. ABWK team day allow groups to schedule multiple exterior home repair team days to either complete an earlier project or move on to additional ABWK projects.
Scheduling Options
Normally, ABWK team days are scheduled for Saturdays, as it enables the homeowner(s) to perform the required sweat equity of working alongside the volunteers on the project. Location and time period will be determined by working with the Resource Development Team.
Leadership
On-site coordination of volunteers will be handled by our ABWK Coordinator and experienced crew leaders previously identified among each volunteer group. The Coordinator will work with crew leaders and the ABWK homeowner to ensure that a clear scope of work for the work to be done is produced so that everyone involved knows what work is expected to be done on the day(s) of service. The volunteer crew leaders are an essential part of making sure the team members perform each task correctly and have a great experience in doing so.
One representative from each ABWK group should be appointed to be a point-of-contact for all communication with the Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. staff in order to execute a successful Brush with Kindness team day.
Workday Guidelines
Team size per project is normally 10 to 20 volunteers per day, but larger groups can be accommodated depending on the extent of each project and the number of projects scheduled for that day.
