On the Horizon - A New Site Planned at Ivy City

Ivy City Streetscape with a Rendering of a DC Habitat Home
As we work to complete the remaining homes on our Northeast Parcel, we’re also busy making plans for D.C. Habitat’s next big project – an affordable housing development in Ivy City.
D.C. Habitat is one of four developers that were awarded land grants from the District, along with funds from the first round of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, to produce more than 50 units of mixed income housing in the Ivy City community of Northeast Washington.
D.C. Habitat is taking the city’s neighborhood stabilization plans seriously as it works to provide housing solutions for this community in need. A largely industrial area in the central portion of Northeast Washington, Ivy City is a neighborhood that faces great challenges:
- An average family income of $18,000, less than 20 percent of D.C.’s median family income
- A poverty rate of about 44 percent
- An high unemployment rate of nearly 20 percent
- A low home ownership rate of approximately 28 percent
“We’re pleased to join forces with our city government and other developers to advance revitalization in the Ivy City community,” said D.C. Habitat President Kent Adcock. “Thanks to the support of DHCD and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, we’re anxiously anticipating a 2010 ground breaking.”
Design of a DC Habitat home at Ivy City
D.C. Habitat has drawn architectural plans for 6 single-family homes and 2 rehab condos on Providence Street. Additional housing will be developed in the same neighborhood by Manna, MiCasa and MissionFirst.
Though we’ve already secured generous support from several partners in the DC area, D.C. Habitat is seeking additional sponsors to help fund this vital project. For more information on house sponsorship, please contact Richard Algra, Development Director, by email at: Richard.Algra@dchabitat.org.
